Practicing Poetry: Write New Poems in Winter 2021

“Practicing Poetry” begins January 13, 2021 for six online sessions through March 24th. The class will meet twice a month on Wednesday nights 5:00-6:30 pm eastern, over Zoom. Students can register for weekly sessions here to receive the login link. Please register for every Wednesday you wish to attend.
Thanks to Delaware Libraries, registration is free! We welcome teens and adults, all levels, including beginners.
In Practicing Poetry, we’ll generate new poems from prompts and model poems. We’ll read work from diverse contemporary poets, and practice traditional forms like sonnet, tanka and love lyrics. Also newly-forged poetic forms such as Jericho Brown’s duplex, and Tina Chang’s use of the newspaper obit as elegy.
We will read and discuss poems by Monica Sok, Natalie Diaz, Victoria Chang and Craig Santos Perez. Also poets Jericho Brown, Justin Phillip Reed*, Carl Phillips, Franny Choi and more.
Practicing Poetry Winter 2021 class dates are January 13 and 27; February 10 and 24; March 10 and 24.
